Odoo BI

Odoo BI apps for real-time dashboards and KPIs

Odoo BI apps turn raw Odoo data into live dashboards, KPIs and reports for every team, without building a data warehouse or writing code. Captivea designs, implements and customizes them so your teams see what is happening in real time and decide on facts rather than guesses.

Let's speak about your project

What it is

What is a dashboard in Odoo?

A dashboard in Odoo is a visual workspace that brings together widgets, charts, KPIs and lists from different modules, so users monitor their area of responsibility on one screen instead of jumping between Sales, Accounting, Inventory and CRM.

  • Interactive: clicking a tile or graph opens the underlying records.
  • Role-based: access groups restrict visibility, so financial metrics stay with the right users.
  • Configurable: rearrange the layout, add or remove widgets, keep the screen uncluttered.
  • Connected: dashboards pull data from several apps in the same Odoo database.

Captivea helps you move from fixed dashboard views to tools your teams can adjust, while keeping governance and data security under control.

Technical & Data

Odoo’s Spreadsheet app, filed under the ERP apps, is the other half of the reporting story: live pivot tables and models built on the same data.

Method

How to build a BI dashboard in Odoo

You start by deciding which questions you need to answer, then configure the graphs, KPIs and lists that address them. A typical dashboard project with Captivea runs in five steps:

  1. Define the use cases — monitor monthly sales by region, track overdue invoices, follow inventory movement trends. We keep the set small so the dashboard stays readable.
  2. Identify the data sources — CRM opportunities, sales orders, invoices, purchase orders, stock moves, timesheets, helpdesk tickets, with filters to refine them.
  3. Configure graphs and KPIs — measures, dimensions and graph types, through the interface where possible, through a custom module when native options fall short.
  4. Design the layout — group related components, limit record counts to keep lists readable, put the important KPIs at the top. Executives, managers and operational users each get their own view.
  5. Secure and share — access groups so people share graphs with peers while financial metrics stay hidden from unauthorised roles, and multi-company data stays segregated.

Chart types

Which chart for which question

A strong dashboard uses different chart types depending on the question being asked:

  • Column and stacked column: comparing values between categories, and showing how sub-categories contribute to a total.
  • Line: trends over time — revenue growth, monthly inventory metrics, ticket volume week by week.
  • Funnel: conversion stages, from lead to quotation to order, or from application to hire.
  • Meter: progress against a target, for a quick health check in an executive dashboard.
  • Radar: several KPIs at once, such as supplier scores across quality, price and lead time.
  • Map: geographic analysis — customer distribution, deliveries by region, sales by country.
  • Tables: the exact numbers behind a graph, sortable and filterable.

External BI

When to connect Odoo to Power BI or Tableau

When you want to combine Odoo data with other systems or build enterprise-wide models, Captivea connects Odoo to external business intelligence platforms. Three patterns cover most cases: feeding fact and dimension tables through Odoo’s APIs with a scheduled refresh; blending Odoo with legacy ERPs, marketing platforms or a data lake while Odoo stays the operational system; and embedding selected external views back inside Odoo menus.

We help you decide when an internal dashboard app is enough, and when an external BI stack is justified. Most of the time, it is not.

FAQ

Odoo BI: your questions answered

Open the relevant app — Sales, Invoicing, Inventory — apply filters and groupings, then use the built-in print or export options for PDF or spreadsheet output. Pivot and graph views are better for on-screen analysis; saved filters let your team run the same report consistently; and scheduled actions can email recurring reports such as monthly sales or weekly shortages.

Turn each key question into a measurable indicator, agree on its formula and data source so everyone trusts the number, display it with a history rather than a bare snapshot, and link it to a detailed view so users can drill into the transactions when something looks off. Access groups keep each user on the KPIs relevant to their role.

The one that answers your questions with trustworthy metrics while staying simple enough for daily use. There is no template that fits every company, but the principles hold: few KPIs per screen, a mix of graphs and numbers, executive dashboards separate from operational ones, and every KPI linked back to the records behind it.

Rarely the platform. Inconsistent use of fields, unclear processes or duplicate records make dashboards unreliable whatever the tool; sticking to static exports leaves pivot tables and graphs unused; and unstructured customization makes it harder to benefit from new analytics features on upgrade. Data quality and governance decide the outcome.
