BI business software for Odoo users
Business intelligence turns what your systems already record into something a manager can act on. Captivea designs and implements analytics on top of Odoo: one set of definitions, dashboards built around the decisions they support, and no monthly spreadsheet ritual.
The principle
What BI does that exports do not
Most companies already produce reports. The work is in the preparation: exporting from Odoo, cleaning, reconciling with a second tool, rebuilding the same charts, then arguing about which number is right. BI moves that work upstream and runs it automatically:
- Data is extracted from Odoo, and from the other systems that matter.
- It is aligned into one structure, so the same customer, product or project is recognised everywhere.
- Indicators are calculated once and defined once: margin, conversion, lead time, coverage.
- Dashboards present the result, per role, with a path from the headline number down to the individual transaction.
The gain is not prettier charts. It is that the monthly debate moves from “whose figure is correct” to “what do we do about it”, and that a manager can answer a question in the meeting rather than promising to look into it.
Where it pays off
What our clients use BI for
Seven concrete starting points. Each one is a real project pattern we have delivered on Odoo, not a feature list.

Most projects begin with one of these and extend outwards once the definitions are agreed and the first dashboard is being used weekly.
The backbone
The KPIs worth starting from
For a mid-sized company on Odoo, the indicators that change decisions are usually the plainest ones. Five families cover most of it.
Sales and revenue
- Order intake against budget
- Win rate and average deal size
- Recurring revenue and churn, for subscription models
Profitability
- Gross margin by product, customer and channel
- Contribution margin by project or contract
Operations and supply
- Stock coverage and stockouts on the items that matter
- Supplier on-time delivery and purchase price evolution
Projects and services
- Planned versus actual time
- Project margin and backlog by team
Finance and cash
- Aging of receivables
- Cash position and upcoming commitments
And what to leave out
A dashboard with forty indicators is a dashboard nobody reads. We would rather ship six that get looked at every week and add to them than deliver a wall of metrics on day one.
Method
How we build a dashboard someone actually uses
A dashboard is decision-ready when a manager can see a problem, understand its cause and choose an action in a few clicks. Getting there is a sequence, not a design exercise:
- Name the decision. Which choice is this screen meant to support — budget, staffing, stock level, pricing? A dashboard without a decision behind it becomes wallpaper.
- Keep the indicators that move that decision and drop the ones that merely look serious.
- Decide how the data is cut: by period, entity, product family, customer segment, project type.
- Choose visuals that make the pattern obvious. Lines for trends, bars for comparisons, funnels for conversion, gauges only where a threshold genuinely matters.
- Validate with the people who will open it before rolling it out, and adjust. This step is where most BI projects are won or quietly lost.
The result is embedded in Odoo or in your BI portal, so getting to it costs one click rather than a login nobody remembers.
FAQ
Business intelligence on Odoo: your questions answered
Less a question of brand than of fit. The criteria that decide it: the quality of the Odoo connector and support for your version, whether the tool holds your data volume today and in three years, access rights by role and separation between companies, whether business users can explore without calling IT every time, and the total cost — licences, infrastructure, implementation and maintenance together. We work with several BI technologies and pick against those, not against a shortlist.
Yes, and most projects do. Web traffic and campaign data next to Odoo sales to follow the funnel from visit to invoice; marketplace or e-shop orders aligned with inventory; an external accounting or consolidation tool reconciled with Odoo finance; machine or sensor data on operational dashboards. We build the extraction and transformation flows, plus the data quality checks and monitoring that keep them reliable once nobody is watching them any more.
No. It means the data from your systems can be read together. Odoo becomes the backbone of performance measurement, enriched from elsewhere where that is useful — product codes, customer identifiers and dates aligned so you are comparing like with like. Replacing every tool is a different project, and usually not the one worth doing first.
It is, provided it stays proportionate. Without an internal data team, value has to arrive fast: start from the decision that is currently hardest to make — cash visibility, profitability, workload, stock — use pre-structured models for the standard Odoo processes, and limit yourself to a handful of clear indicators. The same foundation then takes new KPIs, entities or countries without starting over.
A first dashboard on a well-defined scope is a matter of weeks, not quarters. The long pole is rarely the tool: it is agreeing on the definitions. Once the company has settled what “margin” means and which date a sale is counted on, the rest moves quickly.
